About AEGEE Patra

AEGEE - Patra was founded in April 1998, with the signing of Convention d' Adhesion during the spring Agora in Maastricht, Holland. The first event ever to be organized by AEGEE - Patra, was the Summer University (SU) "Patra History and Culture" that was held on 31 July - 13 August 1998 having 30 participants. The second event was a conference, Buildind a Social Europe (B.A.S.E.) "Equal Chances" that was held 13 - 15 November 1998. Since 1999 though, the antenna was lacking active members resulting in idleness for about two years.

In April 2001, with help and support by AEGEE - Athina, a small core of students that were interested in making the antenna active again was found in the University of Patra. Thus a try to reconstruct and revive the antenna was started. As a result of this attempt, the second SU in the history of our antenna was organized in cooperation with AEGEE - Athina, on 15 - 29 July 2001. It was a Travelling Summer University, "MAD GREEKS DISEASE, Careta-Careta", during which 35 young people from all across Europe had the chance to visit Athens, Zacharo, Patra and Kerkira.

Our next event was "First Low Then High", a travelling event that was held in Patras and Tzoumerka on 12-16 April 2002 with 20 participants. In May 2002 we had elections and the first official board was elected. The summer of the same year another SU was organized, a Traveling SU again. "Port to port through Sea and Land" had 30 participants and was organized in cooperation with AEGEE - Piraias. The participants had the chance to visit the town of Peraias, Hydra, Nafplio, Kalamata and Patra.

Last event for this year was Media School, the pre-event of the Athina fall Agora 2002 (21-24 November). It was an internal educational event on reporting, filming and editing. The AEGEE TV group came to Patras on 16-20 November and through lectures and pactice trained 17 participants how to become journalists and be able to create news items.

And history of AEGEE - Patra goes on…
